Posted on the 10th of august on Discord. This entry entails Edwin adventure at school and meeting named Yui that seems to have a interest in him.
The school gates were wide and imposing, like the gaping maw of a behemoth. They were made with steel, their hinges a little rusted, but otherwise well-kept. Students slowly trickled in.
I proceeded to make my way inside as well. Since there was still a bit of time before lessons started, I decided to stroll around, taking in the beautiful scenery.
‘If only my school back in the US was like this...’
A smattering of pink petals swirled in front of me, before they flew away, carried by the gentle wind. A tiny hint of something lingered on my nose. Their scent was delicate and subtle.
I inhaled it all.
Eventually, my stroll took me to a tree, bigger than the others, with a healthy shade of brown, and a crown of soft, pink petals. They swayed and rustled in the wind, falling and floating and dancing all around me.
Nature was beautiful, and I was disheartened to know that it took a 13-hour flight to witness such wonder.
I couldn’t help but stand there and watch as the petals danced like weightless fairies.
Each petal was a miniature work of art, with a pale pink hue that faded to white at the edges. They moved in unison, choreographically. And as they took flight, they created this mesmerizing spectacle of color and movement, swirling and twirling in the air like a graceful ballet.
‘This is simply—’
“Beautiful, right?”
I was startled, and immediately veered to my right, where a girl, a little shorter than I was, stood, watching and smiling as she took in the same sight I did.
Her hair, as dark and beautiful as the clearest night sky, swayed. It was like a cascade of silk that shimmered under the sunlight, made all the more beautiful by the pink petals drifting around.
She turned to stare at me, lifting a hand up to seemingly, and quite futilely, stop her tresses from whipping around. She was strikingly gorgeous. Her skin was a healthy pale shade, unblemished and smooth. It stood out all the more when her eyes were like obsidian gems.
She oozed femininity. She was not a curvaceous hot babe you’d see on the cover of some American magazine. No — she was beautiful and delicate, like a porcelain doll.
Even her voice was charming and magnetic, like the soothing ocean waves crashing on the shore.
“Y-Yes...” I croaked out, feeling a little lost. My Japanese wasn’t the best, and I was caught so off-guard that I didn’t know what to say to make a good first impression.
I wasn’t a good conversationalist.
“You’re a foreigner, right?” She asked, with just the right amount of curiosity.
I nodded. “America.”
“Oh, it must be so nice there!” She gushed, though not in an obnoxious way. She was very soft-spoken and composed.
A chuckle slipped past my lips. “Not as nice as Japan.” I said, a smidgen more confident. “We have a lot of nice things back home, but we certainly don’t have anime girls on billboards or neon signs.”
She hovered a hand over her mouth to stifle a laugh. “That’s so true...”
I stood straighter, with my chin held high. Hearing her laugh was like the ultimate achievement. Here I was, talking to a pretty girl I barely met in a different language.
And I made her laugh.
“U-Uhm... what’s your name?” I asked.
She looked at me, the bursts of laughter fizzling out into a beautiful smile.
“I’m Nakamura Yui.” She introduced herself, bowing.
I did the same. “Edwin.”
I had mistakenly held out a hand for a handshake. Back in the US, it was normal, here, however, people greeted each other with bows, their depth and length depending on social situations.
Still, for some reason, Yui grabbed my hand right before I could retract it.
She gave it a gentle shake, and I marveled at the soft, cold feeling of her skin. It was not ice cold, but more like, slightly chilly.
I gaped at her, doing my best impression of a fish out of water.
“A pleasure to meet you.”
“T-The pleasure is all mine...”
I averted my gaze. Yui was staring right into my eyes. Despite being demure, there was a certain confidence to her that I couldn’t hope to match.
The moment her hand left mine, a little piece of my heart went along with it.
“If you have any questions or want to talk about stuff, feel free to come to me.”
“A-Ah, thank you!”
She giggled, its melodious sound strumming my eardrums.
I wonder if she would giggle again for me if I paid her.
It would be top-tier ASMR.
Yui took a step back, ready to turn around.
“I guess I’ll see you around, Edwin.”
I nodded, numbly. I had to squelch the pang of disappointment behind a forced smile.
“Y-Yes...”
She smiled, bright and innocent, before she scuttled away with a parting wave of her hand.
I stared at her back — not blinking once — as she disappeared into the school premises. I wondered if I could have handled that conversation better. She was so beautiful, though. So stunning that it was distracting.
It reminded me of Otome. However, whereas Otome was the embodiment of one’s primal desires, Yui had this sanctified presence, pure and uncorrupted. Both of them were beautiful, no doubt, but one was a demoness, while the other an angel.
Otome, for all of her kindness, didn’t have Yui’s aura.
I shook my head, bouncing the thoughts off before they could take root.
...
I couldn’t concentrate. A migrain was incoming; I could feel it. The throbbing was distracting, though not nearly as much as Yui. And, like dominos, thinking about Yui roped Otome into it as well.
My eyes drifted to the right, two rows of seats ahead of me. Yui was there, listening attentively with the ferrule of a pencil tucked between her teeth. One knee was hanging over the other, foot bouncing up and down.
‘God... she’s gorgeous...’
I didn’t want to look, but I couldn’t stop. She was like a work of art. It compelled me to stare, to figure out the intentions of the artist, and marvel at each perfect brushstroke.
At one point, probably sensing my gaze, Yui tilted her head towards my general direction. And for a brief moment our eyes met. She didn’t seem creeped out, instead, she offered me a smile.
My heart skipped a beat, making my chest feel warm and constricted. I hastily tore my gaze away. Even if she didn’t mind, staring at her like that would likely give the wrong impression.
The teacher continued scribbling on the blackboard, the chalk snapping and scrubbing against the smooth surface. His voice was a bored monotone as he read off a textbook.
I bit my bottom lip.
Inadvertently, my eyes found Yui once again.
‘She’s bored as well...’
Somehow, the thought put a goofy smile on my face.
Yui snapped her head towards me, and this time I couldn’t escape. Her eyes locked onto mine, and she smirked.
I was so startled that I jerked my elbow against my open textbook, prompting it to slide off the edge and fall down, briefly interrupting the teacher’s droning.
Yui giggled behind her hand.
I flushed in embarrassment.
‘Well... fuck...’
This was going to be a long day.
...
“Welcome back, dear.”
Otome was quick to greet me the moment I stepped inside the house. Her voice helped offset the streaming thoughts of Yui and the various depictions of her either naked underneath me — or me pinned underneath her.
Now, however, Yui’s face seemed to morph into Otome’s—
“Edwin?”
—The innocence of that pretty face melted off like acid on paper, revealing the playful, twisted nature underneath. My imagination continued to switch between Yui and Otome’s face, as if indecisive.
“Edwin, are you listening to me?”
I nearly slammed into the curvaceous body of Otome. Due to the gap in height, she had to tilt her chin down to fully take me in. I, on the other hand, had to do the opposite.
“U-Uh... what...? Sorry...” I mumbled like an idiot. So caught up was I in my flights of fancy that I had tuned out my surroundings.
Otome narrowed her eyes, making me shrink in my own body. Did she somehow catch my trail of thoughts? I was sure my body language didn’t give anything away, but with Otome you never knew.
“Are you okay, Edwin? You look...” She frowned thoughtfully. “... oddly distracted. Did something happen at school?”
Yes, something did, in fact, happen.
I wanted to tell her about Yui, about how beautiful and kind she was.
“No... nothing happened...”
However, I didn’t.
I didn’t even know why.
